Setting Up Your Warehouse

Before workers can start picking, the warehouse layout must be configured. ScanPick uses a five-level hierarchy: Zone → Aisle → Rack → Shelf → Bin.

Warehouse
└── Zone (e.g., "A — Fast Movers")
└── Aisle (e.g., "01")
└── Rack (e.g., "03")
└── Shelf (e.g., "02")
└── Bin (e.g., "01")

A full location address looks like: A-01-03-02-01

On first run, ScanPick’s setup wizard guides you through warehouse configuration:

  1. Enter your warehouse name.
  2. Define zones (e.g., A/B/C for fast/medium/slow movers).
  3. For each zone, specify the aisle range, racks per aisle, and shelves per rack.
  4. Click Generate — all locations are created in bulk.

When you define a zone in the setup wizard, you specify:

  • The aisle range (e.g., aisles 1 through 10)
  • How many racks per aisle
  • How many shelves per rack
  • How many bins per shelf

ScanPick generates all location combinations. For example:

  • 10 aisles × 5 racks × 4 shelves × 2 bins = 400 locations

This all happens through the dashboard — no manual entry required.

Zones group storage areas by velocity (how often products are picked from them):

TierPurposeExample
AFast movers — high velocityFront of warehouse
BMedium moversMid-warehouse
CSlow movers / bulk storageBack of warehouse

Each zone has a pickRank field for future slotting optimization.

Once locations are generated:

  1. Create products and assign each to a bin location.
  2. Create orders that reference those products.
  3. Create waves and start picking.

Products can be relocated later without affecting historical data. The product’s location is a current-value field — past picks are not modified.
